I have an idea inspired by the above image. The painting is called Pegasus and is by one of my favourite artists, Jean Michel Basquiat. I like it because its black and white and really stark and in your face. The recurring shapes such as circles give the painting a sense of unity and the writing ties it all together. I really like the lines and simple shapes. It has a really nice quality to it.
I want to produce something similar, along the lines of a stream of consciousness drawing. on a large scale say a metre by a metre. Of all the things in my head at that time, kind of like a mind map but random and something fun. I've had this idea for a while, but have yet to try it out. I think I'm too scared to attempt it on a big canvas, I might start small, and see what happens. Also, I think this might help with my anxious thoughts.
This is a detail of Pegasus. It reminds me of my townscapes, the lines and the starkness of it. I want to branch out from my townscapes and draw other things, and this is the perfect way to do it. Plus, I can get whatever is on my mind at the time out in the open and not be consumed by it. I'm a huge fan of Basquiat, I think he was a genius. He was just so good.
Anyway, I'm going to go do some drawing now. See how far I get with this idea.
P.S. I would love to see this painting in person. I think this and 'Skull' are my favourites.
