Out of hospital
Hello. So, I'm out of hospital again. I was there for about 6 months, having been there twice last year. I went through a period of being homeless, which was truly crap. Although I had somewhere to stay at the hospital, so I was lucky. My time at Wotton lawn this time was okay, and I got alot of painting done. I felt myself there and made some good friends. I feel like the staff there were really kind, especially the OT staff. I would go out every day when I had leave and would paint at night. It took a few months to get better, but eventually I was back to normal.
One of the paintings I did when I was there was a big canvas for the gym. It features some of my characters lifting weights and playing basketball. It was alot of fun to do.
The staff there are getting the original canvas blown up to about 12 foot and placing it in the gym, and the original is going to hang outside one of the wards there. So thats cool. I got so many paintings done there though, maybe about 10 really good ones and a few drawings. I spent my 30th birthday there, but luckily had leave, so I went to London with my sister and saw the Basquiat exhibition at the Barbican. My mind was well and truly blown. Wow. What a mind! Seeing his work was a highlight, and I had such a good time with my sister. Truly great birthday!!
Anyway, apart form that, I've moved into a nice new flat., which is really nice. I'm not living in a single room anymore. It was really impossible to do my painting living there, now I have space which I'm grateful for. I want to get another desk and put my drawing board on it and draw lots of comics. Comics and graphic novels is a area that I really want to get good at. Its such an interesting artform and its something I'd love to master. Watch, this space!
Katy.
